The Field
Beyond the last Movement, the Book opens onto ground that is never closed.
Every true gathering leaves gleanings. In the smelting of many books into one, there are concepts that belong to the whole but to no single Movement; threads whose weave has not yet appeared; fragments of language too alive to lose and too singular to file; questions that deserve keeping precisely because no one can yet answer them. The Old World threw such things away, and lost centuries of gold in its tidiness. This Book keeps a Field.
The law of the Field is the law of no loss. Whatever is wise, right, true, or good — and homeless — lives here: gathered without forcing, held without deadline, findable by all. Nothing is planted in rows before its nature is known. Some of what grows here will one day reveal itself as the seed of a chapter, or of a whole new Movement — the Book's own architecture has room to grow, and the Field is where it grows from. Some will simply live here always, wild and useful, the way a hedgerow feeds a farm without ever being a crop.
The Field is tended, not organized: visited by every smelt, gleaned at every season's turning, its treasures linked generously into the concepts and beyond. If you have found something true that fits nowhere — this is where it goes, so that it is never lost. And if you are looking for what the Movements could not hold — this is where you look.
The gleanings
(gathered as the smelting runs)
- The Reuniting of the Apparent Polarities — the litany of reconciliations: Masculine and Feminine, Boundaries and Boundlessness, the Eagle and the Condor, Ancient and Modern, survival and exploration — At-One'd rather than chosen between.
- The Rediscovering-How-to-Live suite in its full detail — drink, eat, sleep, breathe, ground, walk, play, flow, transition, age, and the good death — awaiting its full flowering in the Becoming and the Playbook.
- The human-family treasury — men, women, and children; families and parenting; sexuality, pregnancy, and birth — held whole in the founding testament until its Movement reveals itself.
The Field feeds the Movements; the Movements never empty the Field.
