Temporal Markers

Temporal Markers are the dates, milestones, and schedules we consciously set within the illusion of SpaceTime to orient and manage our work — the surveyor's stakes of The Transformation.

They are instruments, and instruments only. A marker exists so that a body of people can pull a plan backward from The Goal, walk the Critical Path toward it, measure variance honestly, and consume contingency knowingly rather than drift blindly. The 10 Year Grand Strategy, the 20 Year Generational Contingency, the seasonal turnings of the LIØNSBERG Calendar, the LIØNSBERG Cycles of Growth — all are Temporal Markers: chosen, revisable, and in service.

Three laws govern their use:

  1. The markers serve the work; the work does not serve the markers. When a marker is missed, the marker did its job — it made the lateness visible. The response is ignition and honest accounting, never despair, never quiet re-baselining, and never the sacrifice of the wise right path to hit a date.
  2. Markers are not The Window. The Window is set by reality and may close at an unknown time; markers are set by us. Managing to markers while discerning The Window — through continual sense-making and OmniSpection — is the double vision the work requires.
  3. Markers bind bodies, not Spirit. The deepest currents of the Transformation move through consciousness and grace, beyond the Illusion of SpaceTime in which the markers are staked. No one knows how non-local Spirit accelerates what no schedule could — which is why markers are held firmly enough to steer by and lightly enough to be outrun.
