Ten Thousand Generations
Definition
Ten Thousand Generations is LIØNSBERG's shorthand for the long horizon: roughly a quarter of a million years. It is the timescale on which The Game keeps its deeper score.
Why Ten Thousand
Some wisdom traditions teach decision-making on behalf of the seventh or fifty-second generation to come. Others refer to the "Ten Thousand Things" as a shorthand for All. LIØNSBERG gratefully receives that teaching and extends it across the whole arc of interexistence over time. At the scale of ten thousand generations, entire species and civilizations rise, flourish, fall, and rise again within the horizon of play — and cyclic cataclysm, the periodic unmaking that has erased worlds and memory before, comes inside the field of consideration rather than beyond it.
What is built for ten thousand generations must therefore be built to cross such things: knowledge that survives its libraries, patterns that survive their institutions, species that survive their home planets, a Way that can be carried in a pocket, a story, a cosmic Seed. This is why the DNA of LIØNSBERG travels as plain words, living patterns, and flame passed hand to hand — forms that no collapse can confiscate.
The Two-Speed Clock
The Game's clock runs at two speeds at once: this week's turn, and the ten thousand generations to come. Every move is small enough to make this week — and every move echoes across the whole arc of our interexistence. The player holds both at once, as the elders teach with the sweetgrass braid: those who came before, those here now, those yet to come — three strands woven into one strong cord.
