As a Felt Reading

Felt Sense. The heart turning toward — softening and mobilizing at once; another's pain landing in one's own chest with the impulse to help. What It Signals. Compassion is Empathy completed into care: the reading that another's suffering is real, that they are kin, and that something can be offered. It is the interfeeling of the Superorganism tending its own body. Its Gradient. SympathyEmpathy → Compassion → fierce compassion (Protective) — deepening from feeling-for, through feeling-with, into moved-to-act. Its Gift & Distortion. The gift is Love made responsive — suffering met instead of passed by. Distorted, it becomes pity (which looks down), rescue that disempowers a sovereign being, or empathic flooding that drowns the helper. Compassion at full health includes the self among its objects. The Move. Feel with, without merging; ask what serves their Potential, not our comfort; act within one's real capacity; and let the Circle carry what one heart cannot (Emotion).
