Suffering

Suffering is the felt weight of harm, lack, or loss — the experience every living being is built to move away from, and the oldest teacher any of us has.

The canon holds both truths without flinching. Suffering is real, and much of it is unnecessary: caused by ignorance, by broken systems, by the Old World's engines of extraction and fear — and the Meta Project exists precisely to end what can be ended, to move All life away from unnecessary suffering and toward the fullness of its Potential (12.5 The Causes of Pain, Suffering, and Death). Compassion that does not work to remove removable suffering is not yet Compassion.

And: suffering, met rightly, transforms. Pain is the signal; suffering is the lived weight of it; and the fear of suffering often causes more suffering than suffering itself (Fear · 12.6 The Gift and Curse of Fear and Anxiety). What cannot be removed can be metabolized — grief moved through (Grief), meaning found, the wound become the place where wisdom and mercy enter a life. The ones who have suffered and healed become the healers; the crossing through darkness is where many first meet the Light.

The compass of The Great Game keeps both truths in one motion: every move either adds to the world's suffering or subtracts from it — a little more like Hell, or a little more like Heaven. Read the gradient; choose accordingly; and where suffering stands before you in another, let it be a summons, never a spectacle.
