Determination

Determination is the reading of will consolidated — the aim judged worth the cost, and the self gathered to pay it. Felt Sense. Jaw set, spine long, breath steady and low. Not the flare of excitement but the banked fire that outlasts it: the body organized around one direction, distractions falling quiet at the edges. A weight that feels like strength. What It Signals. Determination reports that the will has finished deliberating: the gradient has been read, the price counted, and the whole self has signed. It marks a promise made inward — the felt substrate of Move Four: say what you will do; do what you said. Where determination is present, capacity has aligned with Purpose; the work can now draw on reserves that mere preference never reaches. Its Gradient. Interest → Motivation → Commitment → Determination → Resolve → Grit. Its threshold companion is Courage; its long-horizon ally is Hope. Its Gift. Carriage across the valleys where inspiration dies. Every worthy aim passes through stretches with no wind; determination is the keel and the oars — it moves the work when nothing else is moving. Its Distortion. Rigidity: determination aimed past the point where the aim stopped being right. The set jaw becomes a locked one; persistence becomes refusal to re-read the world. Sunk cost wears determination's face. The Move. Name the aim aloud and the cost honestly. Then row — and on a rhythm you choose in advance, lift the oars and re-read the gradient.
