Irritation

Irritation is the reading that friction is being repeated or sustained. Felt Sense. Sandpaper. Not one flicker but a rasp — heat held low and steady under the skin, patience thinning, the same stimulus landing again and again on a spot already worn. The shoulders creep up; the voice shortens before the words do. What It Signals. Irritation reports two things at once, and reading it well means telling them apart. Outward: a small violation that keeps recurring — a boundary brushed repeatedly, a misfit no one has fixed. Inward: depletion — a body short on sleep, food, quiet, or margin, whose thresholds have dropped so that ordinary life now grates. Much of what we read as the world's abrasiveness is our own worn surface. Its Gradient. Second band of the heat spine: Annoyance → Irritation → FrustrationAngerFury. Sustained and unread, it either escalates up the band or seeps into Resentment. Its Gift. A double diagnostic: it locates the recurring friction that deserves a real fix, and it is one of the body's most honest fuel gauges. Irritability is often the first legible sign that the instrument needs tending. Its Distortion. Enthroned, it leaks — snappishness sprayed at whoever is nearest, usually the safest rather than the responsible. Refused, it grinds quietly into cynicism about people who never knew there was a problem. The Move. Pause and sort: worn surface, or repeated crossing? If depletion — tend the body first; most irritation dissolves with rest. If a true recurrence — stop absorbing it and fix the pattern: name it once, clearly, to the person who can change it.
