Categorization

Categorization is the grouping of differentiated Objects into kinds — the move by which the mind organizes the many into named families, so that experience becomes navigable, communicable, and workable. Together with Differentiation, it is the process through which each being's subjective Map of Reality comes into being.

Categorization carries a double edge, and both edges must be held.

It is necessary: within Ultimate Reality, the perception, identification, and categorization of objects around ideals is required for gathering information, identifying and solving issues, and making progress towards The Goal. No categories, no coordination.

And it is dangerous: categorization inherently removes an apparent object from its context, reduces it, and files it into the realm of the apparently known. Beyond the plane generally perceptible to humanity, many realms of Reality exist that ultimately are One and defy categorization altogether. A category mistaken for the thing itself becomes a cage.

The discipline is to categorize as a servant of Wise Right thought, speech, and action while refusing to let the categories harden into the truth — to keep every filing provisional, every name humble, and every map open to revision as our Current Best Understanding and Current Best Articulation improves.
